This past summer we had the honor of working with a gorgeous bride for her wedding at her parent’s estate in Longmeadow, MA. Taylor grew up in this house, playing on the property as a child, and always knew she would one day like to have her wedding there as well. The yard is meticulously landscaped, and the gardens maintained by Taylor’s mom herself. It was such a beautiful location! The details were stunning. It was exciting to be able to do makeup for Taylor and her bridal party in the house while overlooking the backyard, and being able to watch everything come together!
Here are some photos of Taylor and her beautiful bridal party, with natural makeup looks we created to fit the outdoor formal occasion. Our makeup services got a 45 minute late start due to the party having their hair done off location at a salon, but we were able to make up for the delay and had everyone ready right on time as planned! (This is unfortunately something that happens quite frequently when hair is done in a salon. We always recommend having hair done at the same location as makeup to prevent any delays to an already stressful day!)
I love when I have the opportunity to work with brides from my hometown! Sarah is several years younger than me, but seeing as I am the oldest of 7 siblings, if someone grew up in little ol’ Auburn, MA, chances are, someone knows someone from my family, and that was the case with this beauty. My brother told me what a sweetheart Sarah was, and he was not wrong! As I was doing her makeup at her trial run she recanted stories of her childhood with my brothers, and even visiting with one of them not too long ago. Unfortunately, as is the case with too many others, Sarah had a not-so-good experience at a trial run with another makeup artist prior to reaching out to me. Fortunately it was our hometown connection that got her in touch with me, and I’m so happy it did. It’s always so great to be another part of a local bride’s memories!
Sarah wanted a dramatic but bridal appropriate look for her fairy-tale wedding day. I created a shimmery, contoured eye on her, and paired it with black liner & lashes and a sheer pink cheek and lip. The overall feel was pretty and romantic but with a hint of drama. Here’s a peek at the look we created at her trial run at my studio.
As you’ll see in the gorgeous wedding images below, makeup tends to photograph differently under various lighting conditions. This is why we do recommend going a bit heavier than usual so that in natural light your makeup doesn’t completely disappear!
It’s kind of crazy how time flies by! We were working one of our weddings this past weekend and was so happy to see our former bride Amanda there, as one of the bridesmaids. I couldn’t believe it had already been a year since her Fall wedding at The Lord Jeffery Inn in Amherst, MA! It’s definitely time to share some photos from her wedding day, courtesy of Seth Kaye Photography. Our makeup artist Betsy did a gorgeous job on her makeup, which was a beautiful natural bridal makeup look.
This next image is one of my favorites. Ever. I love a photo that shows the happiness our clients feel when seeing the look we created for them for the first time on their wedding day.
Amanda has beautiful freckles. Our airbrush makeup technique allows us to minimize any imperfections while allowing the beauty of her skin to show through. So natural and so gorgeous!
Fall is just around the corner, and I know so many people are looking forward to the cooler temps! It’s been a hot, humid summer here in southern New England. As we think wistfully of autumn, look at some gorgeous photos of Susan’s wedding last Fall at Harrington Farm in Princeton, MA.
Susan has big, beautiful doe eyes, so I knew I wanted to make those the focus of her bridal look. Paired with a pretty nude lip and cheek, her wedding makeup look was beautiful and feminine with a hint of drama. For her hair, Susan chose a half up, half down style that was pulled back into a twist with soft flowing curls, secured with a floral hairpiece that matched the flowers in her bouquet. She looked stunning!
Here are some beautiful images from her wedding, by Scott Metzger of Metzger Studios (he always takes such wonderful beauty shots of hair & makeup!).
With the 4th of July right around the corner, I figured today would be a great time to share some photos from Caroline’s 4th of July nuptials last year. Caroline’s wedding was held at The International Golf Club in Bolton, MA and incorporated some really cute American 4th of July themed touches (I especially loved the guys’ socks!). Her makeup look was fresh and flawless, and her hair was pinned back in a beautiful low updo, which is perfect for hot summer days. Here are some photos from her wedding, captured by Kristen Jane Photography.
I am so excited to share these gorgeous images and video from Catherine and Rachel’s wedding last year! These two beautiful women celebrated their marriage at Harrington Farm in Princeton, MA. Our team worked with a large number of people – 9 for makeup and 14 for hair – so it was a busy but wonderful day! Here are some of my favorite images, showing the boho-chic hair & makeup styles our artists Alexandra, Leanne, Chelsea and Renee created for this special day.
Look at the gorgeous eye makeup look Alexandra gave Catherine! So natural, yet stunning. And the wrap-around braid that Chelsea created for Cat… Perfection!Notice how natural and subtle Rachel’s makeup was – just enough to even out skin tone and photograph perfectly. Didn’t our artist Leanne do a fantastic job on her? One of the concerns we hear quite often when booking same-sex weddings is that one of the women doesn’t normally wear makeup, so they don’t want to LOOK like they are wearing it on their wedding day either. Renee did a fabulous job on Rachel’s hair as well! Continue reading “Catherine and Rachel’s Harrington Farm Wedding – Princeton, MA”→
Since it’s just after the holiday, and there’s a forecast for snow in the next couple days, I figured today would be a perfect time to share images from Lindsay’s beautiful Christmas wedding, held at the Publick House Historic Inn here in Sturbridge, MA. We’ve had the pleasure of working numerous weddings for this group of ladies. Years ago one was a bridesmaid in a wedding I did, and then one of them was getting married… and then more got married… and we were honored to be the ones to provide bridal beauty services for all of their events! (How much do I love that?!)
For her own wedding, Lindsay opted for a natural bridal makeup look, which looked gorgeous on her. I added a hint of shimmer to her eyes and cheekbones to give off a bit of glow and reflect the lights used as decor around her reception. The whole thing looked magical!
Here are some photos from Lindsay’s wedding, taken by Binaryflips Photography.
Bridal photos in the snow?! Oh yes! What every Christmas bride dreams of!
One of the things I hear from brides when they are first looking around for a wedding makeup artist is “I’ve never done this before, so I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to do.” This is true! The majority of brides have never planned a wedding, and many have never hired a professional makeup artist. It can be confusing and overwhelming! I’m writing this blog post as an insider in the industry, to help walk all of you inquiring brides-to-be through the process and to make it as easy and stress-free as possible.
“How do I find makeup artists in my area?”
The first step is to find the artists who service your area and make a list of ones you’d like to look into. Referrals from your venue, wedding planner or photographer are worth their weight in GOLD. They do weddings all the time, have worked with hundreds of other vendors, and know who is good. Most venues and planners have a “Recommended Vendor List” that they are happy to hand out to their booked brides. Photographers are always happy to make recommendations for reputable, talented makeup artists because the great ones make their jobs easier! (Less Photoshop and time spent editing? Oh yes!) Friends who have recently been married can also be a good source of referrals. Ask them who they used and if they’d use them again. And of course, the internet has made this a much easier task than in years past, and a simple internet search of “makeup artists in (insert town here)” should bring up a list of them. So now you have some potential artists chosen….
“How do I choose the right makeup artist for me?”
There are 5 key things to look for when making this decision.
Their website and portfolio – Reputable bridal makeup artists will have a professional-looking website that showcases images of their work. Beware of websites that use stock images or overly edited photos. Also, keep in mind that a tacky looking website is often a sign of tacky taste – and most likely poor taste in makeup. Online portfolios should show a range of different looks, from barely-there natural makeup, to more dramatic evening looks. If only one makeup look is featured on their website, chances are pretty good it’s the only look they know how to do, and it’s the look you and everyone in your bridal party is going to get.

Style – Does the makeup represented on the makeup artist’s website represent the style of makeup you are looking for? If you are into romantic makeup looks paired with dewy skin, you’ll want to stay away from the artists who prefer the heavy contour, Instagram-type looks. And vice versa – if you like the heavier Kim Kardashian makeup look, then the artists who showcase more natural makeup looks aren’t going to be the right choice for you.
Reviews – There are so many places online for consumers to leave and find reviews. Use them! For wedding vendors, sites like The Knot, WeddingWire and Yelp are fantastic resources. Check out the reviews for each makeup artist you are considering, but keep some things in mind. First, it’s become increasingly easier for businesses to set up fake reviews for themselves. If you are scrolling through their reviews and see dozens of 5-star ones all within a few days, that business probably paid people to leave those reviews for them. This is usually done to counteract previous negative reviews, as it boosts up their overall rating. I recommend searching through a businesses reviews by “lowest rating” whenever possible. Second, it’s normal for a business to have one or two less than 5-star reviews. Everybody is different and people appreciate different things. 3-stars under value could mean that client didn’t value their amazing $100 makeup application as much as they valued their $2000 pair of Jimmy Choo shoes. Also sometimes bad reviews can be left in retaliation if a client was unhappy about not getting their way about something. I wouldn’t fret about one or two less than perfect reviews, but if you see a significant number of them, that should be cause for concern.
Personality and Connection – Something that a lot of people don’t put much weight on is the personality of a makeup artist and the personal connection you have with them. Their makeup skills are amazing? Fantastic! Their personality not so golden? It’s more important than you think. You’ll be spending hours with this artist on one of the most

important days of your life. You should like them, and want to have them around. Whether it be through email, over the phone, or in person, make sure this makeup artist makes you feel good! Past reviews can be great for this. Look for key phrases like “I felt like I’ve known her forever!” or “she was so soothing and calming during such a stressful time”. Some people are just naturally “people” people. Those are the ones you’ll want to hire.
Price – Price is something I have to mention, because it can be such an important deciding factor for so many brides. You’ll need to choose a makeup artist who fits into your wedding budget, but keep in mind that in this aspect, you truly do get what you pay for. Makeup artists at the higher end of the price scale are there for a reason: they use high-end quality products, they’ve paid for special training, they practice proper sanitation (all those disposables and sanitizing products can get expensive!), and they have skills and experience that lesser priced artists usually can’t match. For that perfect bridal look you’ve envisioned, and flawless wedding photos to boot, choose an artist at the top of your price range.

“I know who I want to book, now what?”
The first step, if you haven’t already done so, is to confirm availability with the makeup artist of your choice. The best artists book up to a year and a half in advance. That doesn’t mean your top choice in artist won’t have your date available if it’s closer than that, but it’s best to reach out as soon as possible. (Those wedding timelines that state to book hair and makeup two months prior to your wedding? So wrong!)
Once availability is confirmed, you’ll need to determine if you want to book your artist immediately to reserve your date with them, or schedule a trial run prior to booking. Be aware that scheduling a trial run with your artist prior to booking will not guarantee your date will still be available. Most brides book their dates first and schedule a trial run closer to their wedding – and the early bird gets the worm. Of course, if any part of you is unsure about your decision to hire a particular makeup artist, then a trial run prior to booking is advisable. In this situation I recommend doing one as soon as possible to avoid the possibility of your date being booked by another bride. For all others, book that date!! If they’ve passed all 5 of the above qualifiers, that’s the magic combination.
We are so happy and proud to once again announce that Christy & Co. has been awarded The Knot’s Best of Weddings Award in the Bridal Beauty category for the Boston area. This is our 6th consecutive win, and follows up our induction last year into The Knot’s Hall of Fame.
Thank you to all of our brides over the past year. It’s because of your praise that we’ve won! xoxo
Even though it doesn’t feel like it lately here in Massachusetts, fall is coming to an end and winter is just around the corner! Autumn weddings are very popular in the Berkshires due to the gorgeous foliage and the near perfect weather New England offers. This beautiful wedding held at the Cranwell Resort in Lenox, MA, with images by Brad Ross Photography, just happens to be one of those.
Our makeup artist Betsy and hair designer Renee met with bride Rebekah for her bridal beauty prep in the bridal suite of this spectacular resort.
Betsy created our signature “bridal smoky eye” on Rebekah, paired with a pretty pink gloss and sculpted cheeks, while Renee smoothed out her curls for a sleek chin-length bob. As you can see in the image above on the right, Rebekah has natural tight curls in her hair, which have been completely smoothed out in the image on the left.
